Wheel bearing failure
Hi All,
Driving down the local motorway today about 75mph and an almighty bang from the front end. Front nearside bearing failed. Not a pleasant experience but after having a browse round seems quite a common fault.
When I fit a new one, how far do I back off the retaining clamp?

Hmmm, typical Mercedes pie in the sky setting. Most of the parts aren't accurate to 0.01mm. For example - you can't clamp the split threaded bearing retainer on the thread square to 0.01mm and I can guarantee not one Merc garage has a DTI accurate to 0.01mm. Guess I'll just have to do the old nip up and back off a tad.
