CLK LoVe

HI I have a 99 430. I have custom system and lm5s on h&r springs. Im ordering the yellow Koni shocks. What other shocks are good/better? Does anybody know if there are coilovers available w208 430s? Im getting the rs style kit and want to lower my car another half inch wothout cutting the springs, Can anyone help me with any info on that? I want to get the cl hood, does anyone know of any places that makes custom carbon fiber hoods as an alternativer? Please i will appreciate it. I will post pics when finished.

I would use an H&R/Bilstien combo, Koni works best with Eibach IMHO. If I were you, Id use Bilstien shocks.

Unfortunatly, there are no coilover applications for the W208s, they make them for the W209 and no way will they fit our cars, as for the dropping, I would suggest another route.

Ditch the current springs you have, and buy an H&R Cup Kit, this is a spring/shock combo kit, runs about 600-700 dollars depending on where you get it, you can get a lower drop using the Cup Kit, closest thing to coilovers, I have them on my CLK, yet I still cut my springs to get the drop that I wanted.

the best hands down suspension would be the Kleemann Speed sensitive suspension custom designed & made for the CLK... the price is kinda steep though

H&R cup kit is the next best thing, at only a fraction of the cost.

if you haven't done so already, just change the spring pads... that will lower it about another half inch..

CL hood... check with Evosport, they can get that for you. As for a carbon fibre hood, not sure about that. The CL hood is about 50lbs lighter than the stock hood, so that might be light enough for you....

thanks for the help guys. Ive been struggling with this dilemna for a long time. I dont have any friends that have w208s so its hard for me.Im going to get the cup kit from the looks of it and sell my springs. Another question, How low is the carlsson rs kit from the ground with a standard h&r drop? does anyone know? Is it bad to cut the springs will my car ride different? If i cut the springs which ones should i cut the stock springs or H&R's?

You might wanna ask JoshK or Lowryder on the forums, they both have the RS Kit, not sure what springs they are using, I know one of them is running the H&R/Koni combo. Bruce aka Lowryder cut his springs though, not sure if Josh did the same . . .

so you guys say that i should get billstein shocks instead of Koni. I bheard Koni ones are very good from the guy with them your talking about. Well i cant get cup kit. So i guess im goin to cut the springs. Im getting the rs kit soo ill do it after i get it so i know how much to cut em. Anyone who has did this before give me some info. Also i have 2 pairs of springs my stock ones and the H&R's on it right now, which pair should i cut and ruin. I wont need the stock ones to put on the car incase im gunna sell it but i think the H&R are stiffer and ride better so i dont know what to do. Should i cut H&R's?

Also im thinking about gettign the eibach sway bars. However i read that theye are a lot thicker in front then in back. My back is very heavy due to my system. For my car i would think that they would need to stay the same thickness. Are there any othe sway bars that fit on the clk 430 other then eibach for a reasonable price?

Dont listen to them, im using the CLK320 application on my CLK430, the reason why they say its only for the CLK320 is because the drop that they advertise is only with CLK320 applications, you can still use the CLK320 kit on a 430. Youll get a lower drop in the front due to the weight of the V-8 engine, trust me on this one, you can get the cup kit, just order the CLK320 one. I did the same.

Ive never experienced Koni shocks, I used Bilstien in the past and I love it. The cup kit comes with its own shocks.

Heres a pic of the H&R drop with Koni shocks ( springs were not cut )

The drop isnt that great . . .

Hey are you sure I can use the 320 cup kit. This is scary. I need to get spacers also, Im thinking of getting 10mm in back and 5 in front. Is that a good setup with the cup kit if i roll my fenders>? Does anyone know what size spacers i should get? Now i dont know anything about camber kits somebody wanna fill me in. What kind of kit would i need any recomendartions. Im gonna get the cup kit since you say itll work with 430 even though im sketchy about this. I want to get that extra half inch, haha.

Well its all up to you, the 320 kit can be used for the 430, I have it on my car as well do some other people, only difference is a .2" drop in the front. Here are some pics. . .

CLK430 With 320 Cup Kit

CLK430 With 320 Cup Kit

As for the Evosport Pulley Kit - I got mine for 450 and experienced a 13 HP Gain

with a setup like that, you better dam well be posting pics of your setup...

by the way, Viktorious is absolutely right... don't worry about what they say about the H&R cup kit. It works very well with the CLK430, and lots of people here are using it on their V8s... it just lowers the car a little more in the front (2.1" for the CLK430 versus 1.8" for the CLK320)

But, the ride is still very good according to all those who have the 430 & the cup kit...

Can spring pads be changed without changing the shocks, ie stock shocks?? If so, where can I pick them up?

yes they can be changed without changing shocks. Thanks for help guys. Viktorius how does your car sit with the 15mm spacers? How much is it lowered? Did you roll your fenders? I assume you did, since you said you cut your springs.

To answer the question about the Carlsson kit, it's pretty damn low to the ground - there's only a few inches of groung clearance. I didn't cut my springs, I'm using a standard Eibach/Koni Setup with #3 pads all around. Ride is nice, handling is great, but be very careful of driveways - Bruce I have NO idea how you do it :0)

Im getting the rs style kit. Is your kit fake like the one im getting or is it real. How does it fit? How much did it cost you to get it installed? Do you have sway bars on your car?

I got all the stuff for the brakes for under $700 from the wholesale parts department of Caliber Motors in Anaheim Hills. The brakes are just under 14" and are OEM AMG brakes made by Brembo. There's a noticeable improvement over the stock brakes. My RS kit is a replica. The rear bumper was pretty easy to fit and the front took a lot of work but mainly because I wanted it done a certain way in order to keep the impact strip, and delete the space for the front plate, etc. You can see info on that here. The body shop I use is owned by a friend of mine so he didn't charge me anything.

Also, I don't have any upgraded sway bars on my car, but I'll probably get the 55 ones eventually.
