Just acquired 2000 CLK430 - some electrical issues
So I went ahead and bought a CLK430 today for $3500. Overall in nice condition, 77k miles, salvage, some oil on the bottom, but nothing major that I could see... it drove well, and the only damage that I could see that was repaired was the radiator mount.. not a big deal. But they didn't fix the A/C, cuz it's not working...
Anyway, there are a few odd electrical issues I'm dealing with. The key remote won't lock/unlock the car, or open the trunk, and the button on the center console to open the trunk doesn't work either. Also, the sunroof won't close completely.
Looking for some first steps to take in figuring this out. Could they be related to the collision, or just co-incidence?

Fixed the door lock/trunk issue. The #2 fuse got knocked out of place.. pain in the *** to get into the trunk through the backseats, but at least all is good now with that and I can lock my car.
Sunroof still won't close though. Checked the tracks, can't see any obstacles.. it gets stuck at about 1-1.5" left to go. Any ideas?
Oh, and a lovely surprise while getting the smog test today.... radiator popped a leak, so I have a Behr on the way.

Your key/mote comes apart and the key inside it should open the trunk. The cabs get frozen from water leakage around the cell antenna.
I suppose a hard top will freeze up as well with most people using the remote or console switch.
If the sunroof tracks are clean and lubed, I would start looking at the cable or motor.
My sunroof guru days were on E-class.

The blade key's missing, but I can't get that cut until I get the title transferred into my name.
You think it'd be the cable or motor if it's still opening and closing (most of the way)?

It's hard to say without listening and seeing, If your sure the tracks and linkages are clean and lubed, The battery voltage should be checked before throwing parts at it.
The motor might be on its way out but if it is overworked by a bad cable or clogged tracks, it will have the same symptoms.
The key and the remote have to match the vin, A used fob will never work on your car according to other posts. The original fob can be reflashed if necessary only.
Check with the dealer on this item, later key blanks are different and will not interchange. the keyslots are made different as well.
E-bay has repair covers and complete remotes, recommend getting new though.
Cheers, Gator
