Trying to Replace Shifter on 2000 Cab
I'm finally getting around to replacing the shifter assembly on the CLK 320. I found another for a 2003 CLK 430 and the dealership said it would work for that car (donor car VIN supplied).
I've removed the wires and three screws on the top of the shifter. It will slip out if I can get the clip and lever removed. Of course my hands are too big to get at it from above. I see others on the forum saying you can get to it from below, but I see nothing and feel nothing in the waaay too tight space around the sides/top of the trans. The good news is that I have a lift. I just can't see/feel where that lever is.
Yes, I've spent the last hour searching this forum and others on the site. I find nothing that'll give me a clue. Thanks for any help you can provide. I'd greatly appreciate it.

OK, folks. I found what I was looking for. I had been looking over the top of the transmission when I should have been looking along the port side of the driveline. I even figured out what kind of clip it is and didn't bend the crap out of it during removal.
Jeezus, I hate it when I do stuff like that. No wonder I've been spending my summer riding the Triumph Rocket III and the '57 MGA. I don't have to work on the motorcycle and the MG is a car built with technology from the 1920's - I can take it apart and put it back together in my sleep.
Sorry for wasting space with this thread. I'll try harder next time.

If it makes you feel better when stuff like that happens to me I take a few pics of the problem and solution and post them in the thread. That way you don't feel like posting was a waste as you just added to the body of knowledge and helped some future DIYer avoid unnecessary sweat. Glad it worked out.
