left car running/out of gas-now cranks but will not start

Any help would be greatly appreciated. long story short. we had a family emergency & we left our clk 430 running in the garage until it ran out of gas. Here's what Ive done before I had it towed to the stealership.
1) replaced battery,2)checked all fuses & relays,3)replaced CPS-Still just cranks but will not fire.
I had it towed & the dealership replaced the fuel pump & the fuel filter-still will not start. they wanted to drop the tank & clean it (9.5 hrs @ $98 per hr.) technician showed me white gunk in the bottom of the tank.
I'am going to the dealership Monday for more information & Ill post then. Any thoughts and/or help is much appreciated

There is a valve that looks like a tire valve on the fuel rail try cranking the motor while someone holds it open to let all of the air out of the system. If you spray starter fluid will it start?

My guess is that you need to replace the filter.
I had a similar situation... when the tanks runs low, it sucks all the crap from the bottom of the tank, straight into the filter. The filter also contains the fuel pressure regulator, and once blocked, reduces the fuel pressure to the injectors. The result is that it will start, then stops after a few seconds. The valve is a air bleed point and used to measure fuel rail pressure.

New filter, prime system by turning the key to position two (but not start) a few times... You may have damaged the check valve that keeps the fuel system pressurized.

+1 for testing pressure at the rail valve. If you have pressure there, then I would suspect clogged injectors. You can "borrow" a gauge that fits right on the rail valve from local auto parts store. Hopefully the dealer already did this easy step.
