CLK top operation on the blink

I have an 01 CLK430 Cabriolet. The top will not go up or down with the switch. I have to do it manually. PITA! I have checked fuses and such. I just need a direction in which to follow to get this working again. I have an SLK230 that had a top issue and found some of the wires for the top were pinched and grounded the motor so it wouldn't work. Are there any metal clips that hold the wiring in place? Plenty of fluid just nothing happens when switch is actuated.

Also my dash lights went out . Wont come back on. which fuse controls this?
Any help appreciated.

The topic of the power top not working has been thoroughly covered in this forum (using the 'search' feature is your friend).

When new threads begin, on topics previously covered, all the added/fragmented search results just makes it much more difficult to find the needed information.

Additionally, once a member has provided an attachment that included diagnostic information, an instructional etc., they cannot repost it to yet another thread.

A very good place to begin would be to read through a post (e.g. just 12 or so postings lower), entitiled "2001 CLK320 Convertible Roof Problems".

wpccgrad, welcome to the forum!

The thread that serndipity is referring to, https://mbworld.org/forums/clk-class...-problems.html, is indeed loaded with information for a guy like you who isn't afraid of chasing down some faulty wires. Hopefully, it's simpler than finding a bad wire or a damaged micro switch.

You have obviously found out how to get access to the pump. Just for reference (for future readers), here is a link to the awesome DIY guide created by forum member 'joetwa' for access to the pump, relay, and locking cylinders: http://www.tophydraulicsinc.com/W208...eplacement.pdf

As far as the analogy to the SLK230 (R170) goes, pinched wires at metal clips are pretty much limited to the R170.
