High Mileage Concerns

So I bought my 2002 CLK 430 which is in excellent condition all around, but it has 222,000 kms (which is about 138,000 miles).

Not having any previous service records is there anything that I should do?

Obviously I am looking for a list of suggestions with respect to the engine/tranny which would be relatively inexpensive but a good thing to check and service.

Brakes and all fluids are new.

Thanks

Hi,
One of my front wheel bearings exploded at 80mph at 145,000 miles. You might want to check them out.

138000 isnt alot. Do a search of the forum and you'll see a lot of high milage cars. There's threads about "how many miles are on your car", and the problems associated with them. I've had mine for 5 years and the only real problems are minor, but I only have 101000 miles on mine. I did everything the previous poster said though. Ill keep this car for many more years.

My 02 CLK 430 is at 193K miles. I replaced a wheel bearing in the back and a crank position sensor. The bearing declined slowly and gave me a sound before failure. Otherwise, the car has needed little for its age. Some electrical issues (fore aft seat motors and dash display pixles) seem like typical failures for these cars based on what I have experienced and read. Watch your tire wear, especially the rear wheel inner shoulders.
Enjoy the ride. Mine remains a daily driver.

Redcab -sounds like you're almost to the 200K club. I just turned 98k on my CLK55. Mine already had the CAS done and MAF. One thing I don't hear much about on Mercedes is replacing suspension parts.

Yep, "Talula" just turned 196K. I bought several repalcement items from a CLK 430 partout and Gundo sold me an OEM nav unit. After a fluid change and spring detail, she will be ready for her 200,000 mile celebration.

Any plans for when your AMG turns 100K?

I just plan on continuing to drive her. Its a great GT car in stock form. I've upgraded some led bulbs, larger wheels/ stickier tires and navigation but there's not much that wasn't done right from the factory. I plan on continued scheduled maintenance and enjoying the car. I see owning my car to 200k+

My first drive in the CLK 430 was at 28K. Now near 200k I love the car even more. The engine hasn't lost its power nor the car its prestige. The 208 seems to echo so much that is MB, it is classic and contemporary, even 12 years later.

To the OP, Narwal, were I to own this model again, I really wouldn't do things any differently. I drive the car daily, just not in snow or ice. I fix items that fail, thus far all have been minor, and I perform the basic essential maintenance of fluid changes. I wouldn't hesitate to drive my car from state to state...in fact, I do. She has proven her reliability to me.

Look forward to the same feeling of confidence. Your car was built well.

When you lower these beasts is when you have to start replacing suspension parts. It wears things out a bit quicker I believe, ball joints, drag link basic stuff.
