Unhappy Key loosing range

I've noticed my key is slowly loosing it's range. I changed the battery three times thinking the first 2 sets of batt. might have been bad...but surely not 3.

Anyone else here getting the same problem?

don't worry... its almost normal...

our w208 remotes & receivers suck... range is very VERY poor compared to the new w209 clks... those have much better range

for us, you literally need to be about within 5-10 feet of the car, with no real obstructions in the way

Try this, you may think i'm crazy, but it works.

Hold your remote underneath your chin, point upwards. Stand to an area where you normally can't unlock your car from because it's out of range. Press the unlock or lock button while it's under your chin and voila, it should work. Your body acts as a antenna, pretty cool stuff. Give it a shot.

and if you have braces of metal caps, it multiplies the range 5x further!

hahahaha way to quote one of my old posts ;0)

from my post on BenzWorld....

Yeah I've always had a pretty limited range with my transmitter as well - as fuuny as it sounds you can increase the effective range by pushing the end of the key/transmitter into the bottom of your chin while you push the button. This uses your whole body as an antenna and as stupid as it sounds, try it and you'll be surprised that it actually works.

yes, it REALLY works. try it yourself. keep walking away from the car till the remote doesn't respond and then put it under your chin and press the buttons. then report back here.

How does holding it under your chin add range? Isn't it IR and not RF?

The IR part is for the door handles for remote windows, which must be pointed directly at the sensors on the doors for that feature to work. I think the alarm disarming/arming is RF in itself, but window features and ignition are IR.
