Phone problems???

Hello,

I have a 2000 clk430 with nav. system. That i believe has the phone system option (as far as i know) I also have service through Verizon wireless with a Motorola V60 phone should this hook right up and work? I also cant seem to find the connector wire in the center console, where i believe the phone would connect too? Do all benzes come with that option to connect the phone to the car? Thanks in Advance..

if i'm not mistaken, the 2000 model should have the same option as my 1999 model, which has the motorola star-tac hands free cradle located on the upper portion of the center console. Even though my car did not come with the cellular antenna, I believe the cradle is present in all center consoles. Also, I think the 2001 and newer model Mercedes have the Motorola V60 cradle option.

Actually MY99s came with Motorola Microtac (Analog). My00 started being equiped with the Startac. I believe cradles only came in cars with phone option installed.

Not with the COMAND and multifunction steering wheel. Has to be a Mercedes phone to work with Verizon and integrate with the COMAND. Easily retrofitable.
I also cant seem to find the connector wire in the center console
Did you look under the carpet in bottom of the center console?

..........I don't think your car has the phone option. IN north America, the cradle is in the armrest and is not something you need to look for. In any case, it does not matter whether or not you find the cradle. That cradle will not work with a mercedes V60 phone. You need a new mercedes phone, new cradle and new PSE which can be installed many people EXCEPT a Mercedes dealer. EIther they are too stupid to figure this out or they are under strict instructions from MBUSA to pretend that it cannot be done.

Yes the Mercedes is Prewired for the Phone

As Ted Stated You will need the Phone Install kit
You can also get the NOKIA phone from Steve www.MBENZ.nl

You need a TDMA phone for AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile service. CDMA for Verizon. You can get the V60 install kit from any dealer (Claire Parts http://www.clairparts.com/ gives about 10% off dealer list) or check with Gaston at Auto Class which is in FL (800-749-9832). If your going to get the Mercedes V60i, check on Ebay you'll save yourself some money.

Phone options...

I bought the whole rig on ebay for my CLK 430, including a new Mercedes Startac phone.

My issue is, I HATE that I have gone backwords in phone technology to the startac.

In order to upgrade to the V60, I'm guessing I would need...

1. The mercedes V60 phone
2. A new PSE
3. A new cradle for the phone.

Is there anything else I would need?

actually, the only tdma phone that will work on the startac or v60 cradle would be an AT&T older model one. Sprint uses the 1900Mhz CDMA technology, T-mobile and Cingular both utilize the wanabee GSM system, and Verizon uses the tri-mode CDMA

clkal, I stand corrected. I was thinking GSM and typing TDMA and getting them both mixed up. I had a brain fart!

Jose,

Thats all I replaced. I haven't had any reception problems not using the compensator and I did replace the old cellular antenna (for my original analog phone) for a newer dual band version but I don't know if you really need to. I found one cheap so I just did it. I was getting good reception before I swapped it out. You might find reception problems in fringe areas. You'll definitely be up and running with just the newest PSE, cradle and phone.

Yes I did and so far I have no complaints. Considering I had no useable phone before. My old analong was useless. What I really like is the intergration with the steering wheel, cluster display and COMAND. I'm considering the VR kit as my next project.
