Stupid Question About Spoilers

As dumb as this sounds, would a spoiler increase my performance because of aerodynamics or slow me down because of weight?

I am no expert on spoilers, but I beleive the purpose of the spoiler is to produce a down force on the car to make it stick to the driving surface. I think to answer your question, it would definitley not speed the car up, might slow it down a tad, but could improve perfomance with respect to handling.

All educated guesses!

Spoilers provide down force at high speed.......

almost no production car actually needs one, especially the CLK.

I am pretty sure you are correct about the roof spoiler. They sure do look though!

They are all mainly for looks. Especially on a daily driven car.

Spoilers (esp. front) can also help fuel economy and reduce lift by better directing air around the car. However, these effects are negligible at speeds lower than 70 or so. Above that and the effects grow exponentially. So, if you want the spoiler to do its job, just drive faster
