Is my CLK430 Too HEAVY or Does It Only Have 3 Speeds?
I'm not sure about you, but my car is acting like it has 2 tons in it. When I'm driving on an open road going about 60 mph and I shift from drive to neutral, it's like it's a huge relief for the car and engine. When I switch back into drive the car behaves as if there's something pulling it back and as if, instead of being in 5th gear, it's in 3rd gear. I'm wondering if this might be the reason that the car is only getting 22-23 mpg on an open road when I'm staying at a steady 60 mph. What the heck is going on??
Still not quite sure what you're describing .. How does it accelerate from a stop? How does it drop down in gears when hard acceleration from 50mph?
if the rpm is not high then you have nothing to worry about. does the car slow down drastically when you take your foot off the gas in drive? obviously the car is going to be under more stress in gear than in neutral.

So when you ask "what is going on??", drag is happening. You're driving, you use fuel when you drive, welcome to earth. Nothing is wrong with your car based on what you've stated. The cars' ~0.3 drag coefficient will slow it down and cause strain on the motor.
If your car is rapidly slowing down, more so than in neutral, then service your trans and look for issues in your driveline and power train.
If you're unhappy with the gear ratio then change the factory 2.87s.

PeterUbers: My tires are all 225/40/18. The tire pressure is 33 psi on all four, and the alignment is ok.

Now I have a new problem... My alarm keeps going off whenever I lock my car (the lights start blinking). Someone mentioned that the alarm battery might be out since the alarm sound has its own battery, but I know the battery is ok because when I press the panic button it goes off just fine. Does anyone have any experience with this?
Ugh! Too much!! I bought this car 10 days ago and I really want to keep it! I still feel bad about selling the first one I got.
