I've heard claims that the 6.1 time given by Benz is very conservative and with a "broken in" CLK 430 you can run sub 6 second stock. But then again I've seen magazine times of 6.5?! Can anyone add claim to this? This would make a huge role in me deciding vs the GS400.

I cant speak for the CLK430 but I have run my broken-in E55 at 4.82 and 4.84 (Runs 5 and 6) with a G-Tech Pro. Most of the auto magazines have the E55 at 5.0 or 5.1 and the factory puts it at 5.4-

I have had 3 GS400's and they all ran from 5.5 (modified rear end 3.76 gears) to 5.9 in the 0-60 sprint.

I personally think the cars are completely different. The GS430 is smooth cruiser with a suspension softer than Goose Sh. t- Its fun only on the freeways going straight and there are a ton of them on the roads today (300's and 430's). I dont see too many CLK430's but when I do I always double take because they look soooo awesome. If you can live with a smaller back seat than you shouldn't think twice- MBZ all the way.

By the way, on any given day the CLK430 can beat the GS430- it really depends on alot more than the car (Driver skills, Guts, Road Conditions and path, Etc.)

If there are not too many options on the car (make it heavier) and it's properly broken in (not just the first 1,000 miles, but the first 5,000 miles) then the CLK430 has the potential to go 0-60 in 5.7, 5.6 maybe even 5.5 seconds. From what I remember from looking at the spec sheet, its pretty light for a coupe with a V-8. When I mentioned the 5,000 break in thing, it doesn't mean that you can't drive it over 3,000 rpm's, or this or that, etc. That's only the first 1,000 miles (2,000 miles for some people who really want to be on the safe side). But for 0-60 times, MB's are usually faster when they have passed 5,000 or 6,000 miles.
