2002 clk430

Following ignition 'on', the controller for the power roof checks for the required input conditions to proceed and if all OK, will illuminate for 1 second.
Continuous illumination thereafter (e.g. when the power roof switch is not pressed), is an early warning that subsequent operation of power roof will not be possible.
The lamp on the switch can also provide additional diagnostic information. For example, if the lamp flashes at 1 HZ (e.g. once per second), the soft top cover or bow lock have not been properly locked. If the lamp flashes at 3 Hz, the truck lid is open or the trunk partition is not closed.

Unfortunately, given the age the W208, the likely malfunction tends to be leaking hydraulic cylinders or electrical faults.
Have you checked your hydraulic fluid level, which is easy to do via the cutout in the truck area?
If you have good trouble shooting skills, by searching prior threads, you'll find a treasure chest of information and DIY repair information.
Alternatively, the MB STAR diagnostic system, used by MB dealers and many independent shops, should be able to isolate the fault.
Additionally, Top Hydraulics has several excellent W208 DIY instructionals at:
