Can steering column be moved down?
I just sold my 1992 300CE, and now I'm thinking of getting a used CLK430. The only problem is that the high mounted steering wheel drives me nuts, so much so that I may have to get a BMW if I can't modify the CLK (but I'd much rather have the CLK).
Does anyone know what would be involved in modifying the steering column to move the steering wheel downward a couple of inches?
Is it possible to put in a tilt steering from some other MBZ model (my wife's 2000 E320 Wagon has tilt steering, maybe an E-class steering column could fit a CLK???).

MBWorld Fanatic!
us living in LA, i would not get a bimmer since its literally a dime a dozen...
the CLK, though there are many on the road, is still more rare than a bimmer...
The tilt steering bugged me for a while, but I've gotten adjusted to it and I don't even notice or car that it can't tilt...

Does anyone know if the steering column is connected to the steering gear box via a universal joint? A lot of American cars are built that way. If there is a universal joint at the connection point, then that means the angle of the steering column can be changed slightly witout affecting anything else. But if there's no u-joint, then it becomes a much larger issue.
