Hello! I have a 98 CLK 320 with about 90,000mi. Love this little car! For about the past year or so occasionally on speeds 60 mph the rpms would go up and it felt like it wouldn't go to the next gear. It's been getting worse but sometimes won't do it until it is driven 30 miles or more at that speed. Took it to the dealer last month who ran diagnostic tests and claims to have road tested it however it only showed 4 mi. on tack. They couldn't find any codes or any problems with it. Frustrated, we paid and took it home. This past weekend it did it 3 times in an hour and half. When it does it, I pull over and turn it off. When I turn it back on its ok for a little while again. I love this car and am not ready to unload it but cannot count on it to go the distance! I have another appt. at another dealer next week who on the phone said it could be some modules of some sort...is this expensive? Is there anything I can try at home before I spend a fortune on a 98? Thanks!
looks like it could be...
electronic conductor plate
plug
electronic shifter
any idea of where to look first? How much is this going to run me at the dealer?

The parts are not that expensive, but dealer labor is going to be. I would suggest you look for an independent mechanic to do the work. Chrysler has used this transmission in many of their cars as well so it's not really that big of a job.

It sounds like the conductor plate. change it before it locks up the gear.

Hi, if its your conductor plate (I don't know, I got independent mechanic to check mine and it was) I sourced a used one on internet £199 and I think the labour was about £225, my car was stuck in first gear ! not a good look
