shut off problem

shut off problem
OK so i was out driving my 99 clk 320 when all of a sudden all my dash lights came on and then the car complete die and i came to a complete coast then the car kicked back on but then after about 2 more miles the car die again... at that point i wasn't able to turn the key back over it was like the key was stuck or not reading.. so i called a tow truck and was riding with the tow truck when all of a sudden my trunk popped open and when the car was taken off the tow truck it started right up..i did some studying and i came up with it might be the crank sensor going bad. I'm looking for a second opinion...

could be...the CPS sometimes will throw a code...other times, it does not...it might also be a fuel issue (bad pump).
