2000 CLK430 Cab. - interior noise

I have a 2000 CLK430 cab. Recently, when driving on not-so-smooth roads (typical, in the Chicago area in winter), I have noticed a creaking noise coming from the dash. It sounds like the wood strip across the dash is creaking. Anyone else have this problem? If so, what did the dealer do about it? Thanks for your help.

The base of the dash may be touching the base of the windshield. Try sliding a credit card between the glass and dash at about the one o'clock position (the ac vents being 12) you may have to try a few different spots(you should feel the gap narrowing and that's probably going to be the spot) if this stops the problem your dealer can install some felt strip tape on the back of your dash and it will eliminate the problem.

I had the same problem...

took it to the dealer along with a few other little problems...anyway, they replaced the dashed. Other posts from the past have also reported the creaking dash. Apparently the dash can develop cracks and start creaking. I inspected mine before taking it an didn't find the crack..the dealer told me it was cracked and then replaced it. Good luck.

CLK and W210 E-class dashes have a tendency to crack along the passenger airbag outline. It's an easy money-maker for the dealer and the technician. A E-class dash pays 4.7 hours to replace, if it takes any longer than 1 1/2 hours, you're doing something wrong.
