When this (window dropping a couple of inches after beind closed) happened on my 6 month old 2001, I remembered reading about how to reset the window here and that seemed to correct the problem.....however, I thought this was a problem only with older CLK's.
Is this something that needs to be taken care of with a repair.....or does one have to reset the window system from time to time?

I have a 2001 CLK which at times has had the same issue. While you may need to take it into the dealer to get a new window motor, more likely this will work:
1. Raise the window
2. Holding the window button down 1 click, lower it all the way
3. Press the window button further until the second (auto) click. Hold it for 5 seconds.
4. Raise the window with the 1 click.
5. Hold it for a few seconds with the second click.
