Factory key fob and key blade issue

My CLK430 only came with one fob and no key blade. MB dealership says $50 for the blade and $350 for a second complete key set. What are my options?

Also, I'm considering installing an aftermarket alarm with remote start. Is this too complicated to do or what? I want a dependable, feature filled alarm system. Ideas?

I would not play with the wiring. If you have to, use special wires with connectors, don't make a cut up rats nest for the next guy.

I would recommend you purchase a spare key, if you misplace the key or it malfunctions you will be stuck until you get a replacement from a Mercedes dealer (there aren't any options). You can call various dealers you may find a better price (in PA the cost was $250).

Am I able to just get a spare key blade without the remote assembly and it still work or does the car need to be remote armed/ disarmed for the starter circuit to work?

I'll be moving to TN in the next few weeks so I may wait to see what that dealership charges for a complete key set.

The metal key is only useful in the event you get locked out (driver door, trunk, glove box) when the key fob malfunctions, but it won't start the car or disable the alarm.

I had the same problem, no spare key when I bought the vehicle. Maybe I was just lucky but I found an after market shop that was able to get me the key from Mercedes for only $175. He still had to take a picture of my paperwork on the hood next to the VIN but was able to get the key. I would suggest that you try to find a shop that deals with only Mercedes and other German cars, maybe he'll have the same in that my guy has. Good luck
