Starts and dies, starts and dies, starts and goes
2000 CLK 320 cab.
Car starts, stumbles and dies and repeats this for up to 10 times. It does this on an interrmittant basis. Some days, no problem. Some times only once after a number of starts with no problems. A couple times it would mkeep cranking without starting. If I keep trying to restart it it will eventuially start up as normal. So far, it has not left me stranded. It will do the stumble/die thing some days or not for a week or so.
I've replaced the CPS with no change. There is no CEL or codes thrown.
Anyone dealt with this before?

If no fault codes pop up, it may not be a sensor issue but could be the fuel pump relay. Open your trunk under the mat at the back behind your wheel is the relay.
Open it up and have a look at the contacts, they can get dirty and prevent the fuel pump engaging, so try giving the contacts a clean with a little piece of paper and see.

I had a similar issue and it was the fuel management card. My indy pulled it out and reinstalled it. After that no issues.

Wow. Old thread.
The good news is that I finally got the problem solved. After replacing the key fob, as recommended by the stealership, no change after a wasted $400. Still no change after replacing the shifter module (another $500). After struggling with various indies, I finally stumbled onto a guy who said,
"Check the K40 relay. Benz gets cheap electronic components from China and they fail a lot".
Found a used K40 relay board on eBay for $30 delivered, installed it, and no more problems.
I have since sold the car as of last fall (running perfectly, bye the way) and replaced it with a 2011 E500 cab with 6,500 miles on it. Waaaay too much fun.
There is more to life than gas mileage.
