I recently acquired a W208 2003 CLK 320 with 62k miles and designo interior, however the car has a malfunction with the convertible top and windows. Upon starting the car, all of 4 windows will completely lower, and when one tries to use the window switches to roll them back up they have a mind of their own. The windows often will not respond correctly or at all, yet when the roof button is pressed to close the top the windows will often all roll up only to slowly work their way back down. As for the top, with the parking brake on and the roof unlatched, the top button seemingly does nothing when pressed to open the roof. After taking the cover off to inspect the pump, modules, and, wires they all seemed to be in good condition. Next, I took the car to a local Eurofix shop to read the codes. The shop told me they “found no communication from the soft top control module or the rear SAM”, and obviously quoted a ridiculous price to diagnose and repair the problem. With that being said, I have turned to the mercy of MBWorld to help revive this sweet automobile. I live in Nashville, Tennessee and would appreciate any and all help/advice.
My next step would be to replace the soft top control module. Is this a DIY job or not? The shop said they would need to "program" the module if replaced.
