benz keys
my buddy has a 5 series bmw, his key charges while it is in the ignition....thats a good idea....
think about this....you know how our keys we can slide off the long narrow key & other keys that maybe attached...that key controls the glove box you know....
what happens if the batt dies in the remote?....how does 1 get in their car?
secondly....does that long narrow key serve anymore purpose than the glove box?

Just take the batteries out of the remote right now, and test it in the ignition... if the car starts, then no battery is needed. If the car doesn't start, then you know the outcome...
there is a very very simple solution to this question...
Just take the batteries out of the remote right now, and test it in the ignition... if the car starts, then no battery is needed. If the car doesn't start, then you know the outcome...
After making the post, i decided to test it out myself... and, INDEED, the car starts with NO BATTERY...
I pulled the battery out of the remote completely, and inserted it in the ignition, and, the car started as normal....
I'm sure this settles the minds of many MB owners...
When you get the car open, put the key in the ignition and the alarm will stop.
BTW, isn't all this Info in the Owner's Manual?
And yes, the alarm will go off! Then you can't turn it off! Stupid battery!
The metal key does not control the alarm system so that's why the alarm goes off when you open the door with the metal key. The metal key should not control the alarm system so the design is correct.
So I guess there is no need for the battery in the handset to start the car.
I don't have the "other" infared key. Bought my car new from the dealer.. CRAP!
cost cutting?
