2001 clk430 - with front bumper off, this is dangling down on the drivers side. anyone know what it is and where it is supposed to go?

Yes that is your outside temperature sensor. there is a small hole on driver side outer front bumper grill (black) for the sensor to sit in. Just twist it and lock it back into place. **Actually yours looks like it took a hit and is damaged because I can see the internal part of the tip is exposed. I recommend you replace it, it is P/N: 0075421318 and you can find it anywhere from $12 - $25.
