Brake time!

Ah, the joys of owning performance. Took my beast in for B service & found out I'm within 5% of the "you're all outta brake pad" warning light. Gotta track date coming up the end of this month, so told the fine folks at MB Laguna Niguel to go ahead.
$400 for pads on the front of a MY01 CLK55. Point of reference: pads for a CLK430 are less than half that.
Oh well, I guess driving hard (and stopping sure!) comes at a price. Gotta be glad I got 34K miles out of the originals....

Yeah, but it didn't cost you $400 to replace your pads, did it? Rotors, calipers, and pads on the 55's are bigger. When I gasped at the price tag for pads, my service guy said "I can explain with just three letters: AMG"

Well I'm not terribly good at math, but it seems like just under $200 for 18K miles is about equivalent to $400 for 34K miles .

Well a number of my friends call my car "The hardest street driven Benz in America" if that gives you any idea.

The longest a set of tires has lasted me on this car is 11K miles.

I get on the car like crazy and really throw it around at every chance. Lots of aggressive city driving definitely takes its toll.

Keep in mind much of that has to do with my alignment. My car is lowered quite a lot, and I have massive negative camber. If they weren't so aggressively staggered, I'd probably get 20K miles out of them .
