CLK Electrical Problem
Today I encountered a very strange situation with my 01 CLK 320. I was waiting in a parking lot with the ignition turned off; it was sunny outside and the temp. was about 11 C. Both windows and the sunroof were fully opened and the radio was turned on. I stoped there for about 10 minutes and then I prepared to drive off. I switched on the ignition and because it was windy, so I tried to close the both windows....... but they refused to go up. So, I tried to closed the sunroof and nothing happened. The radio was okay though. Then I came up to the exit of the parking lot and I put on the turn signal and it wasn't working. There was no sound, no light blinking on the dash and I was not sure if the outside lights were working at all. So, I headed home immediately; then after a mile or two (5 minutes of city driving), everthing was normal again..... I was able to close the windows and sunroof and the turn signals were okay. Did anyone experience this strange problem in the past?

clk same problem you had in past
Today I encountered a same problem that you had in past both windows , power mirrors and the convertible top stop working then after 15 minutes of driving everthing was normal again..
Can you please tell me how did you fix that issue .

these problems are usually caused by a faulty SAM unit which is the main relay that controls 100% of the electronics inside the car. unfortunatly there is no fix for it you just have to replace the unit, they are about a few nudred dollars and very easy to change, it is located inside the fuse box on the driver side of the engine bay, the SAM unit is auto adative so no programing neede just plug and play also the SAM unit is the same for the 320/430 and the 55 so you can just look for one on ebay and it doesnt matter which model clk its from. Just open the fuse box cover completely including the screwed down cover and un plug the relays on top of the SAM unit and then flip it and unplug the wires then grab the new one and plug everything back in the same order, dont woory about remembering which wire harness goes where because they are all different and can only be plugged into the dedicated slot. hope this helped.

Patrick39 and xtrememotors, was the problem ever diagnosed? I'm looking at Sam units and for that price I wanna be sure because my vehicle is doing the same thing with the windows and side mirrors....

Hi,
Yes we did fix that problem it was not the SAM unit , it was the power convertible top module which is located in trunk 208 type make sure if you want from wreckers number has to match I got it from M-Benz was about $650 new. This unit send signal to your windows aswell .

@xtremem, thanks I have been looking into it, its interesting because it doesnt always happen and when it does if its mid day or later after driving 15 mins the roll bar switch clicks off and everything is back working, im trying to diagnose it when its happening but havent had a chance to because it only happened monday once n the morning this week when it was cold (main time im not trying to bother with it, lol)...
did u have to put it on star to know it was the module or did u run ur own test?
