Brake pads

Do you guys get your brakes checked often? How long do your brake pads last usually? Where do you usually get them replaced at? Thanks for the info in advance.

Funny you asked, I just changed my brakes this afternoon Front and Rear.
This last set of oem brake pads lasted less than 8k miles.. But I do alot of fast highway driving. My sensor light came on about 2 weeks ago and I changed the fronts and rears just to be on the safe. My fronts still had some meat left on them and the rears were like 60% but I changed them anyway. Will save for a rainy day. You should only change them with the sensor tells you to.

Should you really wait until the sensor goes on? I wasnt even aware that they pads had sensors. I just brought my 2001 CLK 430 to the dealership for the rip-off Service B. $520. Last time i will do that. They told me I needed new brake pads ($200), but I havent seen any sensor go off. I told them I would hold off because I figured $200 for just pads was too much.. Suprised they arent telling me that I need to change my rotors or get them cut, since everytime I have ever got a brake job, I always got my rotors cut or changed.

EFF YOU JACKIE
Next time they tell you that you need new pads, don't bother. Go somewhere else and get pads / rotors. They told me the same, I had the pads replaced, 20k miles, then about 2k miles later, I was getting a flutter from the front when applying brakes. Took it to the dealer and they told me I needed new rotors, and I would have to replace the pads again. NICE. Why didn't they tell me that prior. Go to www.tirerack.com, find an installer and have them get you rotor / pads. Cheaper in the long run.
