Why do I have to pull the door handle 2 to 3 times before door will open?

MB CLK430
Why do I have to pull the door handle 2 to 3 times before door will open?
Have a 2000 MB CLK430. Door opens fine from the inside but requires me to pull the handle multiple times to open from outside. Anyone find a fix for this?
