How embarrassing

I was driving my clk 320 and I made fast right turn the ground was little wet and I guess the APS system failed or I don’t know what it was, and all of a sudden my car start to fishtail … I was sooo disapointed on my car and whats worse it was so embarrassing to have mercedes clk do that. I though that was it I am going to crush my car
Anyways was mercedes suppose to do that? Just cuz of this I feel so down right now ..... and here I am bragging about this cars every where maybe i should stop

I gotta admit I am a wild and crazy dirver

don't know what happened....but even the best slip protection systems in the world can't counteract physics....you were probably mashing the pedal while your rear wheels were already spinning out.....there is this very sharp corner near my house that i used to spin out on when the ground is wet....i've been able to beat esp countless times on that particular turn....pretty exhilarating isn't it?

Put Mich. Pilot XGT ZR 4s on the car. They grip, they're smooth and they make Conti's seem like recycled baggies pretending to be tires.

My car happened to fishtail couple months ago when I made a wild turn. Changed to Mich. Pilot Sport and they definitely have better grip.

Four words stand out from that quote: "Fast", "wet", "wild" and "crazy". Nothing was wrong with the ABS, or anything else on the car. You just got a little carried away. The car can't defy the laws of physics.

Your car is good, but not "defy-Isaac Newton" good. An object in motion stays in motion. If you turn your steering wheel into the right turn, and your rear wheels are still going straight, guess what, you are going to fishtail.

Try this: When it's wet outside, don't punch it while going into a turn.

P.S. I have Michelin Pilot Sport and they rock.

four words: up size the wheel , spring, shock, oops thats not four words...

and not to offense anyone but don't you know that CLK320 is really not a great handler compare to the 430 and the 55.

my sister's CLK320 can't do jack other than crash if i do the stuff like you did. CLK320 is not a sports car. its a look and feel good lux coupe.

There's nothing wrong with it. ESP, ABS, ASR, BAS, etc. can't save you from everything you or the environment can do. mbtech208 is correct about the laws of physics. When you're driving along at a particular speed on a particular road surface, there's a minimum distance required to stop your car's momentum in the forward direction. If you attempt to make a turn in less than that distance, you will lose control.

You can be thankful that you didn't slide sideways into a curb and flip the car. That's another physics lesson, except it's not a free lesson like the first one.

The best thing you can do is learn the limits of your car before you get into that kind of situation. I'd recommend a high performance driving school like Skip Barber or Bob Bondurant. Seriously, it's not your car that's embarassing, it's your driving skills.

BTW, I had an SLK with Continental SportContacts and traction was terrrible in the wet after they had about 8K miles on them. New tires might help increase your car's limits, but they won't change your familiarity with those limits.

Here is Sir Isaac's first Law:

Newton's first law of motion states that "An
object at rest tends to stay at rest and an object
in motion tends to stay in motion with the same
speed and in the same direction unless acted
upon by an unbalanced force." Objects "tend to
keep on doing what they're doing."

In fact, it is the natural tendency of
objects to resist changes in their state of motion. This tendency to resist
changes in their state of motion is described as inertia.

Inertia = the resistance an object has to a change in its
state of motion.

ladies and gentlemen..

today i had the privilage of test driving a CLK500 ( damn those vented drilled discs) and i have the following comment.

the only good thing about the looks of the clk ( besides the interior which is absolutely fantastic), was the cross drilled brake discs.

Driving it is a totally different story people. This baby can pull G's !!!!! wow!!! It is nimble and agile as well as sounding awsum!!!!

fantastic sound system and unbelievable instrument cluster ( avantgarde)

i can only imagine the 55!!!!!!

So in person, it's ugly from the outside? A 430 already pulls hard enough, 500 should be even better.

FrankW, the clk320 will not handle like a 430 or 55. Hmmm. If you replace the springs and shocks on a 430, you use the same parts as for the 320. To begin with if you wanted to swap springs for the 55 you ordered the same as 320 and 430. Now H&R does offer different springs for the 55 but the 430 and 320 remain the same part #. Same parts, different handling. That does not make sense. My 320 with H&R's and bilstein sport shocks WILL out handle a stock 430. It won't beat it in acceleration but handling, no problem. Also, if you don't get some H&R's on your C32 I bet I would out handle you as well. The point being that when people were using the same springs for the 320, 430, and 55 the H&R's were still an improvement over the AMG springs. And still are. But I am sure that the 55 specific ones are even better. This is not Frank Way is it? I cannot believe he would make such a statement. And if it is then there is something I do not know. Excuse me if I'm wrong.
