Shaking while idling
Hi All,
I've been noticing that my CLK 320 is shaking when on reverse but worse when in drive. Its seems to happen when I stop at the lights or pull out my drive way. It feels like it going shake until it falls apart. I changed the air filters and cleaned the MAF sensor but it only got worse. Upon driving I can also hear a knocking sound. I could also hear the car shaking/knocking when standing a car length away. I have no warning lights on the dash and the car has mileage of 118220. Could it be the spark plugs?
Please can anyone give me most likely solutions from their personal experiences or point me toward a problem I may have missed?
Many thanks in advance and look forward to your responses!

I had a mechanic check the motor mounts but the are good, he also check the MAF and all the air filters, all good. He checked the spark plugs and wires and said that could be the possibility, could it?

Yes, but it would even be worse or as bad when driving and accelerating. If someone does remove the spark plugs make sure they do a compression test.

You can check your engine mounts yourself from the driver's seat. Open the hood, put the car in Drive with your foot on the brake and rev the engine to 1500 rpm or more and watch to see if the motor lifts up more than an inch or so. Do the same in Reverse for the other mount. Mounts cost $40 for two on ebay.
You could have a bad coil, but a good mechanic should be able to test them before you start randomly buying parts you may not need. Your car has two plugs per cylinder and they are 100k mile plugs.
Best of luck with the repair.

Hey mate, I would start with engine mounts. If you had faulty coil it would show a fault.I had the same issue when I bought the car and I decided to engine mounts straight away. But during that I also did spark plugs and cables as it is pain to do them and has it all opened and engine tilted.
one of the mounts was super totally dead and spark plugs dirty.
it was probably a combination of both. No more misfires.
Now the engine is super smooth even after it has done over 300tkm.
Good luck.
