Codes cleared, still runs rough

Hi,

I have a new to me 2000 clk430, 258,000 miles I was given. Car ran fine, then CEL came on and I can feel a definite 'miss,' like running on 7 cylinders. I pulled the codes and got 0170 and 0173 and 0455 and 0204. I replaced the MAF with a Bosch unit to address the 170 and 173. I know the 0204 is the injector and 0455 gas cap or fuel issue.

When I put the new MAF on, the CEL went off, but the car still ran poorly, no change at all. Codes 0455 and 0204 went away. I drive it some more and got P0300, p0301 and p308. I changed the coils on cylinder 1 and 8. Car still runs poorly, no change at all...but no codes.

I have looked around (I am no mechanic) and didn't see any bad or disconnected hoses/tubes or anything out of the ordinary (I have a 2002 e430). So now I have no codes and have run out of ideas. Maybe plugs and/or plug wires (I dread that job). Any ideas where to look or what my next steps should be? Car runs rough, lack of power and I feel like it has a miss.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Check the air intake system for leaks.

If no leaks are found, with the mileage and no maintenance history, could be just spark plugs/wires or fuel filter (e.g. low fuel pressure) and not bad compression or clogged/faulty injectors.

I would pull the plugs on a cylinder that's easy to get at and assess their condition.

Thanks, Serendipty! The car seems to idle good. How would you suggest checking for intake leaks? Do you spray starter fluid around the intake and listen for a change....or is there a better, safer more accurate way to do this? Any particular place that seems to be problematic?

I think I will pull the #1 plugs since it threw a code on that cylinder and the access is good. The #8 seems much harder to get at. What plugs are correct? I'd like to only use the factory OE plugs Autohauz shows the Bosch Platinum plugs with this description: "Updated version of OE spark plugs F8DPER, F8DPP33, and FR8DPP33. Pregapped for normal usage." Is this the ideal plug?

I am waiting on the plug wire removal tool, not sure If I could get the boots on and off without it, but would certainly try it on one cylinder. A new set of 16 Bosch spark plug wires seems to run $245 or so. Trying to avoid spending that, but if I change all 16 plugs, it seems to be a good time to do the wires...yes or no....not necessary?

Just frustrated as I thought the codes were pretty straight forward. I was surprised the MAF didn't seem to help...then no change with the new coils. The car is for my daughter...I'd like to get it dialed in ASAP so she doesn't take mine all the time! Thanks for all the help and any input anyone has is appreciated.
