Top seams seperating

Top seams seperating
I have noticed that the side seam of my top canvas is seperating. I知 thinking I値l have to sew it, perhaps with an awl. Anyone done this before and can give me some tips?

It may be possible to sew the top back together if it's not too far gone. My top was split at the seam above the rear window, allowing for a good sized gap. I used a similar color waterproof canvas and some Shoe-goo to create a cap to close the top. My top is somewhat faded, so duplicolor black fabric/vinyl paint created a nice match between the two fabrics. It's a bit ghetto, but it has held up over a couple of years and has stopped all leaks from the split. You may be able to get it professionally repaired and make it look good.

Highland doc......seam separation of our A208 roof has not been a common issue, but can occur (e.g.likely caused on frequent opening and closing).
It's been much more common issue on the next generation A209 CLKs, where you'll find numerous efforts of DIY repairs.
If that doesn't work out, here's a thread, that has lots of details on removing/installing the A208 canvas top.

PS:
Something that would really help keep the power roof system free of leaks and in great operating condition, would also be to apply a good conditioner on all of rubber seals associated with the roof, windows etc..
Some suggestions would be:

Mine was splitting on the driver's side and I sealed it up with 2-part epoxy and some clamps until it dried. It wasn't pretty, but it held for a couple months. I had the entire top replaced this summer, the upholsterer who did it said that the canvas had shrunk too much for the seam to be sewn; the repair would have torn out. I paid $2000 for a new canvas top and rear window installed. He did tell me that it was very labor intensive, though, and the next customer with a W208 probably wouldn't pay as little as I did.
