2001 CLK430 Tonneau cover stuck open
Hi everyone, I’m looking to buy a 2001 CLK430 project car today and the biggest issue to start with is that the tonneau cover is open and won’t close. The top won’t go up either so it’s definitely going to be a problem for me to get home.
I cant get into the trunk to see if the tool is in there or to put the top in manual mode. Does anyone have any advice for me? Can I take the cover off to access the trunk and if so, what tools will I need to bring?

When the tonneau cover is open, both he power top and central locking (e.g. trunk release via the fob and center console switch) are not operable (e.g. to keep the tonneau cover and truck lid from colliding).
You'll have to use the mechanical key to open the trunk, using the correct method.
-Insert the key and turn it 45 degrees CCW.
-Then push the key inward, which should manually unlatch the lockset.
-Then while keeping the key pressed inward, should allow you to lift the trunk lid.
It may take several push in attempts to succeed.
If fails, there is a way, to via the back seat, which is detailed post #5 in the following thread.

The rear of tonneau cover over hangs the trunk lid a bit, so it won't open fully.
Hopefully it will open enough, where from the drivers side, you'll be able to get your arm in, from the side opening and using a flashlight and screwdriver turn the hydraulic pressure relief screw, 2 turns CCW, to the stop.
You should then be able to push down and close the tonneau.
If the tools to lock/unlock the rear bow and tonneau cover are missing from the tool kit, you'll need a thin open end box wrench (10 mm) and allen wrench hex key (6 mm).
