Window Tint

I wanted to get my windows tint to 35% all around with solo gaurd.

I just wanted to get a sense of how much people pay and what kind of type are the best kind to get for our CLKs.

ANy suggestions on which type of solo gaurd?

Sorry, but I have not info on Solar Gard. I just had my CLK tinted at 35% using Llumar (made by CP Films) and have gotten several nice comments so far - I've had it less than a week.

Make sure the installer uses moleskin.

Good Luck!

Good to here,

What type of a tint did you use? Mirror, metallic, ect.???
If you don't mind please post some pictures of your result for all the people that wants to get their window tinted.....

I was thinking of getting Charcoal type. It seems like a tint that won't affect the look of the car.

Thanks

Moleskin can be used on the inside door seals so they don't scratch up the tint. Any good installer will do it at no charge. If you don't get the moleskin installed, use some rubbing alcohol to clean the seals so that no debris gets on them and scratches up your tint. It takes a little practice, but with an old credit card and a clean rag you can wedge it between the window and the seal and get it nice and clean...

Cheers,

Dominik

When you guys got your tints done, do you know if your installer have to take out the window seal to get the tint job done?

This guys was saying it will cost more to tint my car(CLK2000) because there might be a chance that the airbag could be deployed when taking the seal out....

I think it's all Bull Sh*T to rip be off but I wanted to ask someone that had their tint job done...

I have tint all around and it costed me $140 at a pretty reputable shop in So Cal.

The only thing I don't like is that originally I have the blue coated windows so the tint isn't as pure black as I would have liked.

My advice is to make sure your installer is familiar with tinting a Mercedes-Benz. My referral came from a Mercedes-Benz dealership and some members here.

When my tint job was done they did not remove the door panels (01 CLK 430). It ran me about $225 for 35% tint all around. Had it done in a shop in Fremont, CA and they did an excellent job. Would recommend them to anyone in the Bay / Sac area. Actually, that shop was recommended to me by someone on this forum back in the day, lol... It's called Window Tinting Plus... tintingplus@aol.com or 510-657-5665.

Cheers,

Dominik

Thanks for the input guys.

I would love to do it there only if I was few thousand miles closer.

I have been calling around mainly in Washington DC area and southern Maryland. I got quotes from $150-$200. Some people say Llumar is the best but the others say Solar gard. I thought this tinting window is going to be easy but more I look into it, the more I get lost.

Does anyone here recommend a good reputable tinter in Maryland? I have asked the Herb Gordon MB dealer in Silver Spring and they don't know of any place.

I called the Audi dealer and they recommended Fresh Design Ink in rout 1 college park. Has anyone done their tint there?

I called them up and they sounded like a good reputable place..
