First Repair on my W208 - Bumper marker Socket

So with my 'new' W208 CLK 320, I have a lamp out warning. After checking all the bulbs the culprit is the bumper marker light on the driver's side. Upon removing the reflector, one of the wires broke out of the socket and the other wire is almost broken out so it looks like I will need to replace the socket. Furthermore, it looks like the socket itself is corroded so definitely needs to be replaced. Does anyone know where I can get the replacement socket (I assume from the stealer) and what the part number is?

I can post a picture later on if needed.

Hey man, I haven't obtained that yet as it's kinda pricey to get shipped to canada. I'm trying to find the same thing a bit cheaper but i'll post an update when I do!

Based on the picture I'd sway that's repairable if you are handy with a soldering gun and shrink wrap.

Well I won't say I'm a pro "solder-er" but I've done it a few time on circuit boards so maybe I should try that first. What about the corrosion within the socket on the blade connectors? Do you think that will cause any issues?

I think you could get Away with 22 to 18 gauge wire size. 3m type from AutoZone.

FWIW, while both links show a rebuild kit for the side marker lamp socket and pigtail, for around the same money, the link provided by MNT02CLK, also shows that a genuine MBZ socket/pigtail assembly can also be purchased.

From the lower picture in post #3, it appears that the OP has access to the wiring harness and just inserting the pigtail's 2 spade connectors into the harness, would be a much faster and easier repair.

Sure enough today I went to attempt the repair and solder the wires but the wiring harness seems to have slipped through the entry hole back into the bumper / engine bay. Does anyone know how I would go about retrieving this? Do I need to remove the bumper?

I would suggest getting this and not go through all the bother for that low price...non expert fix is bound to fail

Hey everyone, just an update that I've repaired the socket. I ended up purchasing the URO option from RockAuto as it was the cheapest shipping to Canada at $24 CAD: URO Universal Lamp Socket

First I had to get the wiring harness back into the location where the bumper marker socket is. I figured I should be able to see it from the Engine Bay which I did after reaching way down. Once I found it, I inserted a piece of wire from the bumper marker socket location into the engine bay:

Wire pushed through that rusted hole as far as I could go which in theory should go into the Engine Bay.

After seeing my precious "pull wire" emerge in the engine bay I then taped the harness to the wire to pull back through the bumper marker socket:

Painter's tape was closer to me than electrical tape so used that

I then GENTLY pulled my line through while reaching down from the engine bay and guiding it. Successfully it emerged to my delight:

We're getting closer

Because I'm not accustomed to posting pictures step by step I didn't take a picture of each step in attaching the wires to the socket but basically the instructions on assembly can be found at this link on BenzWorld: W208 Bumper Marker Socket Assembly
The only difference is I didn't join wires I just attached the socket to the existing wiring

My Final Product which after turning on the car it works and the dreaded lamp out warning is gone:

The tape used by MB to insulate the wiring was slowly unravelling so I ran electrical tape around the length of it. Didn't take a pic obviously..

Very awesome indeed! Happy that you were able to get it all sorted at that low price point. There is no substitute for the sense of accomplishment solving your own problems while at the same time learning and basking in the glory of your results.

Congratulations and hanks for the pics!

this is what you'll need vice electrical tape...that tape will come loose, and you'll be back at square one. I paid $3.20 from home depot, and it's with it. My recommendations.
