too good to be true?
hi! new to the board & interested in buying clk but need some help.
this is the ad:
$18,800, 2001 MERCEDES-BENZ CLK320 auto, air, fully loaded, blk on blk, low mi, CD plyr, must sell this wk
i called him & he told me car has been sold but has a 2000 clk320, 60k miles, clean title for $16,800. said car had little damage on right side door but fixed. any ideas why this car is so cheap yet doesnt have a salvage title? is it worth the risk to buy one? i was going to offer him $15k. what do you guys think?

unless you can physically see, touch and take delivery of the car personally before giving any sum of money... it could very well be a scam.... u never know

Carfax is basically useless., OTHER then its totaled,. or lemoned
Because carfax will not tell any accidents that is not reported to them...
Or DMV.,., I am not sure
In real life situation,.,. my gf was in accident.. (A COUPLE times) with her Bimmer.,,. I ran a carfax 6 months after it... carfax still shows its CLEAN with no accident at all., even though the insruance company REPORTED to DMV
......... So... don't trust CARFAX for all...

yea, do NOT trust carfax at all. theyr $5000 guarantee is only if the car has been totalled and you can PROVE it. on the other hand, though, you can look at it this way: if your car got in an accident (like mtimmy) and the insurance repaired it - wouldn't you still keep it? only if my car was seriously banged up and got a halfway repair job would i get rid of it. who knows - maybe the cars got a decent repair job just that the owners were too picky to drive something that's "been in an accident." we got one of our cars for a steal of a deal just like that. all our mechanic said was that the hood had been repainted. the car runs great and is as solid as ever. it's just that we have no idea what it's been through. i'm not sure if an acutal MB dealer would be better at detecting damange but you can take the car to them and for $100 they'll tell you what they can.

I agree...you might..
also try Autocheck.com, which I use at my car company. They are owned by Experian (equifax), so I think the database is a little deeper than Equifax. One thing I tell all customers these days...you have GOT to know your seller. If you don't know him, or have no references, walk off until you're sure about him. There will be another car.
