part numbers for a moulding?
Hi,
I'm thinking about changing the window moulding and door handle trim to black (as everyone suggested). Has anyone done this before? If so, could you provide some details?
Also, does anyone have part numbers? I need the 3 pieces of window trim and the door handle, per side, in black. The local dealer says they need the VIN number (which is really stupid)

They need the VIN to put in their EPC (electronic parts catalog) - this will ensure they get the correct physical part. You then need to ensure that they dont order identical color to what you have - theres a 4 digit color code that they add to the end of the part number to specify the color on coloured parts.
The last 3 numbers of the 4 digit number are the paint code that MB publishes

OK, its almost definite that if they put your VIN in, they will end up with the wrong part number - as its not body colour related, its model related [and the model is in the VIN] or "package" based.
Go find a VIN number for a same model year car, with the right parts on it, and quote them that. I'd just read it off the windscreen visible VIN plate :-)
