Mercedes CLK 320 Cabriolet (W208) - Registered 01.09.2002

Hi

I've just acquired the above vehicle in the UK where I live, and would like some help on the following: -

1. Nokia 6310i Handsfree Mobile Telephone Kit installation

2. Installation of a CD-Changer

3. PDA Navigation sound routing query

1. The car has wiring pre-installed for use via the steering wheel, but Mercedes's own kit is circa £750 sterling! - way too much. I was wondering whether you knew of anything available which could take advantage of the wiring/cabling already installed but at a much cheaper cost?

2. The Head Unit is Mercedes's own - an Audio 10 unit and I gather it uses a Fibre-Optic cable to communicate with the changer. Could you inform me of the correct cable please and recommended CD-Changer units which are compatible please?

3. Mecedes's own "Navigation Command Console" is a staggering £1800 and the quality is not much to write home about either, in my humble opinion. I have therefore purchased a PDA on which I'm running Tom Tom 3 Navigator software utilising a bluetooth satellite receiver and the quality is excellent, plus I can do so much more with a PDA! However I would like to route the sound output from the PDA, from it's headphone socket through the car's two front speakers and have a system which mutes the sound from the head-unit when a voice-generated directional command is output via the PDA, in much the same way as a telemute system for use with mobile telephones - anybody any ideas please?

Thank you in anticipation of your help

Roz

Do you know which phone kit you have prewiring for? There are a few that use the Nokia 6310i, so if you have the option code from the build sheet of your vehicle (or get the VMI/v-card data from the dealer), that would help.

The CD changer you would want is an MC3198. You will need the W202/W208 bracket. The fibre optic wiring may be present in your car (check first), if not, you will need that as well as a power wiring harness. The power wiring comes from the large connector on the back of the Audio 10 (on the back at the top).

I would highly recommend the replacement of your Audio 10 with the COMAND system. You could have it done for around £1000, installed, ready to go, by Steve (from the Netherlands) on one of his UK trips. He could also do your CD changer (and possibly phone, depending on your wiring) at the same time, thus saving you some big bucks (well, pounds).

Scorchie - many thanks for your reply, I was beginning to give up hope!

No I am not sure if there is any pre-wiring installed for the telephone - I am simply referring to the buttons on the steering wheel - it would be good if I could link these up somehow with a mobile phone.

How can I check the wiring installed - ie the fibre optic cable - for the Audio 10 - how do you remove it from its housing?

I like the sound of what you are proposing via Steve - how can I contact him please?
