Radio Trigger

The SLK is ex Japan and has a Matsu****a electric radio in it MB PN A163 820 12 86.
The problem is the FM frequencies are 76-90 and there is little in the way of AM accessibility because Japan doesn't use much AM.
Drives me crazy so I picked up a Becker BE6003 (PN A208 820 14 86 [08])
out of either a NA CLK W208 or and E W210. The radio is identical in appearance, it fits the slot perfectly, the AM, FM, Tape Player all work fine (I took the CD out of the trunk because it took up space particularly with the roof down but my bet is it would work too)
What it does not do is shut off when I turn the key off or turn back on when I turn the key on .
Now in terms of the connection to the harness it was a simple plug and play and so far I know that A7 on the pin out of the R170 SLK is about 5-6V hereas A4 is constant 12v.
Therefore I am assuming A4 is the power to both radios but on the original audio A7 moves it to standby mode. On the W208 A7 does not appear to be used.
Which brings my to my question. Can anyone tell me where the signal comes from in a W208 to turn the radio off and on when the key is turned?
I considered using A7 to activate a relay in the circuit to A4 but that would mean entering the radio code every time because the power would be dropped completely vs. going into standby.
I would appreciate any ideas. Thanks
