Starting Issue

Attempting to get the starter motor turning on my W208 CLK320.

The starter is clicking but not turning. So far we have done the following:-

New Starter Motor installed (on removing the old one, this also engaged freely using a booster pack, so is clearly working OK)
Cleaned earth strap from engine to chassis plus added a jump lead between these to be sure of a good earth
Checked all fuses under bonnet and in boot
New heavy Duty Battery with booster pack attached for good measure

We can hear the starter motor whirr and hear a click from the solenoid, however, the car simply won't turn over

As the solenoid clicks, we have discounted the relay as being faulty.

The car started fine and ran up until one day I parked it then just wouldn't start

Is there anything that we are missing maybe immobiliser related? We also appear to have a blocked scuttle drain on the passenger side so the passenger floor is wet. Is there anything in this area that could affect the car starting? I'm not very familiar with the electrics on the car

we've had the passenger side carpet up and someone has put oil where the module is to stop rusting and the module is swamped. Is this the ECU?

thanks

OK so we're finding this module to be the gearbox ECU (correct me if I'm wrong. Plus, we're seeing the Mosfet Semi-conductor (BTS42GL1) has the centre pin of 5 which is repairable, however leg 1 is destroyed where it goes into the chip so there is no surface to solder to.

Looks like we need a new board.

Can anyone tell me if the gearbox modules are plug and play interchangeable please?

No idea about your module issue and question, but regarding the starting issue you might want to check the crankshaft position sensor.
