Loud Scraping Noise from right rear and in gear clunk.
I was just out for a pleasure ride. I've been noticing a clunk in the rear end when on & off the gas for some time. Today it got MUCH worse very quickly, and there is a loud metallic noise when decelerating. This car has 64,000 kms, and was inspected at a Benz dealer in BC with 56,000kms. No winter use, no salt. Any suggestion before I trailer it to the Benz Over dealer? It was shipped by rail. Could parts have been bent by straps? They have shipped enough vehicles that shouldn't be an issue.
UPDATE. Repair in progress. Had it towed to Barrie Mercedes. (Ontario Canada) They were very responsive and quickly diagnosed the problem. There is a large bolt, spacers, bushings and such that had come loose (clunk) and fallen out. This allow the differential to rotate slightly and the drive shaft was contacting a shield when decelerating. Parts are on order and it will be $380.00 plus tax. Very pleased by this outcome.
