Rear axle oil change
So I want to replace the rear axle oil. Vehicle has 195k miles. Don't know when it was last replaced. I went to the auto store and they suggested 75w90, while user manual states for a 85w90. Any tips?
Also the fill and drain plug are both large allen key. Do any of you, know what size is that? Its clearly larger than what I have. Thanks for any input.

I just went through this and tried to find as much info as possible on what is specced for our cars.
From what I was able to find the 208 came with MB spec 235.0 from the factory, which has been replaced with spec 235.7.
235.0 could be had in 80w90, 85w90, or 90w.
235.7 is 75w85 and available from MB and from Fuchs as Sintopoid FE 75W85.
These oils are not that easy to find but you can get them online.
That being said a lot of people have put in synthetic gl5 oils in various weights includingb75w90 and report no ill effects.
Plugs IIRC are 14mm allen.

Thank you. Very informative. How about Fram brand?
I've just associated Fram with cheap stuff.

No experience with that particular lube but I have used synthetic 75w90 Mobil 1 in a few older MB and BMW diffs with no problems.
I did use 235.0 oil in my CLK 320 diff oil change a week ago, but my gut feel is that synthetic 75w90 should be ok.
I edited my original response, IIRC drain and fill plugs are 14mm allens.
