2002 CLK 430 water pump questions
Hi all,
My new (non-OEM) water pump came with a metal gasket and a rubber seal. Since my timing cover doesn’t have the “groove” to fit the rubber seal in, do I just use the metal gasket and some spray on sealant, or do I have to fit the rubber one on with the metal gasket somehow?
Im asking this after finding out that coolant is still dripping from the pump area, along with coolant dripping out of the overflow hose on the reservoir(after replacing all of this) and check engine light is on, so any help is appreciated.

It seems some replacement pumps come with a gasket and O ring, others just with the gasket with that car. Maybe to make them fit for more models? Since neither your engine or water pump have a grove for the O ring I would just use the gasket...I believe it is metal with a rubberized coating. Did you use a sealant?
OK quick update...some timing cases on that car use an O ring, others do not....depends on the serial# of the engine. So that's why some replacement pumps come with both the O ring AND gasket. Hope this helps.
