Oil Filter Help...gaskets!

Hi, I just changed my oil filter and oil myself yesterday. On the oil filter, there are three rubber gaskets. I replaced all three, however I am not sure where the top one (the biggest ring gasket) is placed. Is it placed flushed with the top or a little below in the notch?

Please help...I don't want to drive my car without knowing! Thanks,

Right to the top, It seals it so that it doesn't leak over the top edge. The link below is for an slk, but is the same for clk.

I just tried that and started my car. Oil started spewing out of the filter!!! wtf??

I put the gasket all the way flush with with the top. Maybe I should put it one notch down?

man, what a mess.....
