Question p0120 and p0123

So my uncle has an 05 e320 200k+ miles. The other week we were getting ready to go to work but when we got in the car to drive off the car wouldn't respond to the pedal being pushed down and every now and then the engine would rev up but would go back down. After researching it sounds like it goes into limp-home mode I believe it is called. He says he notices it on days where it is really cold outside like this morning it did it it was 36 degrees here. Fast forward I scanned for codes since the CEL came on and they were p0120 and p0123.

I see quite a few people have experienced this before. What causes this? Is it the cold weather because even when he restarts the car it does the same thing again. Once he lets the car run for a bit or when the temp starts to rise outside the car will drive just fine with no problems.

I went to rockauto to lookup the parts that I saw some people referring to the tps but when I look up tps it looks like the pedal position sensor except they have different part numbers.
