M113 Ignition Coil Packs
I have a 2003 CLK 430 Cab, M113 engine with about 95k miles. 2 questions please …
1 - do you think I should preemptively replace the ignition coil packs ?
2 - if you do, is there anything tricky about replacing these on the M113. Is it an easy enough process ? Or are there pitfalls to watch for ?
Thanks so much. Greatly appreciated.
unless you are having any sort of ignition issues there's no reason to replace them. unless they're physically breaking down in some way that can make them work intermittently, it tends to be when they're bad, they're bad.
at 95k, if the spark plugs haven't been done however, I would highly recommend doing those. They can be a bit tricky with how old the car is and the mileage, but definitely need to be replaced. The interval is 100k but that's kinda laughable because even if they work ok, they end up in really rough shape by then and can be a bit seized into the head. I'd recommend every 80k(or less) on these cars. Dual spark plug engine, so twice as many as normal hence lasting longer. Supposedly burn a bit more efficiently as well.
