TeleAid mulfunction message
This is very annoying. Here is what happened.
I never had TeleAid service on my 2001 CLK, never had any mulfunction messages related to TeleAid. Reicently I brough my car to a dealer for some minor services, when I picked up car I had "TeleAid SOS Please visit Workshop" mulfunction. I ask the dealer to get read of it and they told me that this is illigal. I told them that charging people $240 a year + airtime for deactivation is illigal. Called 1-800 number, they confirmed that I MUST have TeleAid service to turn this mulfunction off.
I'm really pissed and this thing annoys the hell out of me!
Is there any way I can deactivate that mulfunction without subscribing to TeleAid?

hmmm
Thats not true. Mine recently came on also. The reason was because my service is over and I refuse to renew it. My friends CLK did the same thing and she took it into the dealer and they just reprogrammed it to not show up. So its gone on her car. As for me, I'm just lazy. :P

........as crazy as it may sound, it is actually true that from MBUSA's point of view, you must have an active teleAID subscription in order to have the error message removed. Some dealers of course go ahead and remove the error message for you. I think it is entirely ridiculous and I doubt that it is legal, but until there is a legal challenge, MBUSA will continue to get away with it.
