Key fob not working from a distance
I have a 2003 W208 (according to the VIN and the dealer) CLK430 convertible. I have a brand new battery in the key FOB, a strong red LED when I press a button. The car will only unlock and lock the doors and trunk when I'm shining the IR LED at the door handles. Apparently, the RF radio frequency part of the central locking is not working.
I've checked the central locking fuses in both the front and trunk fuse boxes and they're all good. I've read that the overhead light console, light buttons, panels and SOS button is where the electronics for the RF receiver are located. Can someone please confirm that this is true? I'd prefer not just throwing parts and money at the problem.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what else could be causing this behavior or how to fix this?
Thanks!
