Seat control fore & aft intermittent issue
2003 CLK430
I’ve got a 2003 CLK430 Cabriolet with 99k miles that I’ve had for about 4 years. It has intermittent issue with the seat controls on both the driver and passenger seats less than 5% of the time. What happens is that no matter if I press forward or reverse on the door it only moves forward and can then sometimes get stuck forward. This can sometimes be alleviated by a turn off and restart. It doesn’t happen all the time, but it is an annoyance and a bigger problem if other people drive it.
Letting the car sit for a couple days and trying again usually “fixes” the problem temporarily.
I understand this is likely a communication issue on a CANBUS between the door switches and the under seat modules. Is that true?
Does anyone know if there are ways to improve the issue? Is it related to a grounding or bad connection issue, so cleaning the ground or adding dielectric grease to the connections might help? Also - is it known which specific connection to the module is the culprit?
I have replaced the driver module with a used unit, and as well disconnected and reconnected the modules and I think it has improved some, but I want to get this to rectify closer to 100%.
Thanks for any feedback.
Set seat to required position. Then raise seat back to required height. When setting required seat position, allow for seat tilting forward when adjusting
height. Cost and time effective.
