Full Interior Overhaul: Suggestions Welcome!

Hey everyone,

Regards from Portugal, and thanks in advance for the amazing info available in the forum.

I’m currently doing a full interior overhaul on my Mercedes CLK 230 Kompressor (Elwgance trim) and would really appreciate your suggestions on things to tackle while everything is out.

So far, I’m removing:
  • Seats
  • Door cards
  • Steering wheel
  • All leather components (for restoration and leather painting)
  • Headliner (will be reupholstered)
  • Rear hat tray to replace (first aid plastic trim is broken)
  • All fabric-trimmed pieces
While I’m at it, I’m also taking the opportunity to do work that would normally require stripping the interior, such as:

  • Replacing the speakers
  • Changing the telephone antenna seal
  • Cleaning and soundproofing hidden areas ( by the way of someone had some tips for soundproofing I am all ears)

I’d love to hear any recommendations—even small details that are easy to forget but make a difference, like:

  • Replacing door card bulbs
  • Checking wire harnesses
  • Fixing seatbelt mechanisms
  • Cleaning sunroof drains
  • Lubricating moving parts
  • Upgrading to LED interior lighting
If you’ve done something similar or just have a good checklist of things to check/replace while the interior is out, I’m all ears! I'm trying to keep the car as stock and original add possible but willing to do some improvements.

Thanks in advance for your help!

one thing i can tell you is water collects in the trunk, and can cause problems, and when you open the trunk, any water in the trunk pours onto a part of the trunk carpet that is directly above part of the electrical system, which creates issues with stuff such as seats, etc.
