Exclamation rear head rests problem

Hello everyone,
I am Italian and I am a new owner of a MB CLK A208 (of German origin),
I have a problem with the automated opening of the hood,
In particular since I tried to pull up and down the rear headrests to see how they work, I noticed that when activating them from its switch I heard a noise like a noisy gear (but electric drive can be heard that starts).
The rear headrests switch had a red light always on since that day.
now, I activate the switch to open the hood by unlocking the handle that pulls down the 4 electric windows but apart from that it does nothing else, I presume because of the red light on the head restraints.
What can I do?
Thank you very much in advance

To help get accurate responses:

In American Eng the “hood” covers the engine. The brits call this the “bonnet”

At the rear of the car is what Americans call the “trunk” but brits call the “boot”.

The retractable roof is called the “top” in USA, not sure what brits call it.

I think you are saying the top won’t go down.
